Shirley Manson: the latest PETA postergirl
I have my reservations about PETA and some of their more extreme tactics, but fundamentally I approve of what they want to achieve. So I was interested to see that rock chick Shirley Mansons has become the latest face of PETA with a new poster campaign. As we've come to expect from the group, the images depicted are hard-hitting and graphic. Another recent PETA campaign, launched to highlight the poor treatment of animals in circuses around the world featured an equally arresting picture of Shilpa Shetty dressed up as a tiger.
PETA is responding to what is feared to be an upsurge in fur trends in the fashion world, with celebrities including Madonna seen wearing a chinchilla coat in December. I can't help wondering if their campaigns just encourage those with a tendency towards attention-whorage to wear fur in an attempt to 'shock', but the prospect of a return to fur is a worrying one that I for one will be keeping an eye on.

Ergh. That's nasty - what was it when it was a furry and breathing - a fox? Certainly stopped me dead in my tracks when I saw it. Powerful stuff, Peta. Wonder if it was photoshopped or did they just hand it to her and that was her spontaneous expression?
